What is home broadband?

Home broadband is fast internet. Simple as that!

Home broadband internet access is often just shortened to 'broadband'. ADSL, ADSL2+, Cable and Velocity are all types of broadband available from BigPond.

BigPond Cable Broadband connects to the internet using a Telstra cable installed in your house - the same kind used for FOXTEL, so your phone and fax are unaffected. The superfast speeds mean that whatever you're doing - downloading movies or music, playing games, uploading photos - it'll happen, lightning fast.

BigPond Elite® Cable

Your BigPond Elite Cable Plans can provide download speeds of up to a maximum of 30Mbps¹.

If you are currently on a BigPond ADSL Plan and have a compatible modem, you simply need to change your plan to a BigPond Elite Cable Plan in My BigPond to receive the faster speeds.

BigPond Ultimate® Cable

Using the latest generation of cable internet access technology we are providing lightning fast speeds for multiple users to enjoy at once, BigPond Ultimate Cable is among the fastest broadband services available in Australia today can provide download speeds up to a maximum of 100Mbps in to the home for sharing across multiple users within the household¹. Ultimate Cable is only available to customers in the Cable area who have a 13-digit account number.

If you are already on a BigPond Elite Cable Plan, you'll need to upgrade to a BigPond Ultimate Cable plan and purchase the BigPond Ultimate Cable self install Home Network Gateway migration kit, by calling 13 POND (13 7663).
If you do not currently have a BigPond Elite Cable Plan, simply call us to find out if BigPond Ultimate Cable is available at your premises.

BigPond Elite® Cable plans can provide download speeds of up to a maximum of 30Mbps when downloading from capable sites or across multiple sites. Please note, average speeds will be lower and actual speeds vary due to factors such as:

your location
your plan
Internet traffic
your equipment/software and the way data is transmitted.
some modems not compatible with these speeds.

Download speeds on devices connected via a Wi-Fi modem or network extender may be slower than on devices connected by ethernet cable.

BigPond Ultimate Cable plans can provide download speeds up to a maximum of 100 Mbps into the home for sharing across multiple users in a household. These speeds are so fast that they exceed the capabilities of many content servers and individual PCs. Average download speeds will be lower and actual download speeds a single user will get will vary due to a number of factors including customer hardware, equipment and software, server limitations, type of content being accessed and number of users online. Download speeds on devices connected via a Wi-Fi modem or network extender may be slower than on devices connected by ethernet cable.

BigPond Ultimate® Velocity plans can provide download speeds of up to a maximum of 100 Mbps into the home for sharing across multiple users in a household. These speeds are so fast that they exceed the capabilities of many content servers and individual PCs. Average speeds will be lower and actual speeds a single user will get will vary due to a number of factors including ONT type, router, server limitations, network configuration, member premises interference, traffic, hardware and software. To achieve maximum BigPond Ultimate speeds existing Velocity customers may need to purchase a new router and internal Optical Network Termination device (ONT) from Telstra. Download speeds on devices connected via a Wi-Fi modem or network extender may be slower than on devices connected by ethernet cable.

A Velocity Telephone Line Service is not compatible with:

all ISDN services and plans
50 Hz Customer Loop Metering
customer premises interference
pulse dialling
dedicated EFTPOS
